How will you be assessed?

Some units are assessed externally through an exam board set examination. All other units are assessed internally through completion of assignments and externally verified through a portfolio of evidence for each unit.

What will the course cover?

External units carry an externally set exam where learners must complete and achieve at pass grade or above. Units could include:

  • Engineering principles and Maths – fluids, dynamics, gear ratios
  • Delivery of engineering processes safely as a team – manufacture and MOT tool.
  • Engineering Product Design and Manufacture – externally examined unit
  • Applied commercial and quality principles in engineering/MV – business aspects
  • A specialist engineering project – vehicle security device – modelling and prototyping.
  • Work experience in engineering – 4/5 day placement at an engineering establishment.
  • CAD/CAM working drawing development
  • Modern manufacturing systems – assembly line technology/JIT/Kaizen/Poka Yoke
  • Manufacturing secondary machining processes – using lathes/ pillar drills/milling machine
  • Fabrication manufacturing processes – mechanics toolbox manufacture
