Citizenship

The Citizenship National Curriculum for Key Stage 3 and 4 is planned for and delivered as part of our PSHE provision.  This is built upon further in our Sixth Form PSHE programme.  An understanding of society is essential if students are to be positive contributors to their community as adults as is the aim of our personal development strategy.

The British Values of Democracy and Rule of Law, core to the citizenship national curriculum, are visited in other curriculum areas and highlighted to students when this happens.  The election of our Student Leaders is a practical example of  democracy in action in our school.

Weekly Votes for Schools sessions allow students of all ages to evaluate different arguments and justify their own position.

As part of our broad curriculum offer Citizenship is now offered as a GCSE subject, whilst Sixth Formers can study A-Level Law.
