Why study this course?

You will learn real, practical skills for the business world. These include making presentations, completing group tasks, interpreting financial data, producing business documents and responding to tough business decisions. You will also learn the academic skills necessary for university success.

What interests should you have?

Students who do well in Business Studies are curious to know what people who work in a business do all day, not just what the business makes or sells but what the people do. These students are usually interested in how the government works and the decisions governments make that impact on the business environment.

How will you be assessed?

There are four units of work. Two of the units (and over 50% of the overall grade) are externally assessed through examination. The remaining two units are set by the examination board but are internally assessed.

What will the course cover?

The course covers the internal and external environment of business. You will get to research the purpose of marketing and how marketing campaigns are developed. You will closely examine business finance and learn accounting techniques. Finally, you will experience the work of the human resources department, as you design and conduct a recruitment and selection practice for a business of your own choice.
