There is neither coursework nor controlled assessments but end of Year 13 exams. The course is assessed through the four language skills of: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
A Level French builds on GCSE successes and topics but moves to a more mature, in-depth appreciation of the wider social issues including multiculturalism, politics and artistic culture in the French-speaking world. Students also study a film and a book in French such as ‘La Haine’ or ‘Noé et Moi.’
Languages are crucial for a whole range of jobs such as translating and interpreting and extremely useful in the business world as well as in journalism, politics, law, diplomacy or working for any company with outlets abroad. Universities look upon language students very favourably and A Level French is very useful for a range of degrees such as linguistics, the arts, law, history, English and of course languages.
