Why study this course?

This is an academic subject designed to look at the daily impacts of the law on people and working within the justice system. We look at where you can go, what you can do and explore how the law is a living thing. Through this course, you look at how the law is applied and whether the justice system is fair and accessible to all.

What interests should you have?

An interest in the criminal justice system and the way in which miscarriages of justice are tackled or avoided. An understanding of the role of different legal professionals is expected.

How will you be assessed?
  • Exam one: 33% (80 marks)
  • Exam two: 33% (80 marks)
  • Exam three: 33% (80 marks)
What will the course cover?

The legal system and who works within it, as well as the different powers of the court system and interactions within the court hierarchy. We look at specific offences such as murder, theft, robbery and assault to understand what needs to be proven to find someone guilty of these offences. We look at disputes between two people and how they are resolved. Human rights, how your rights are protected and what that means for you and what the government can do to remove them.
