Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Kenton prides itself on being a fully inclusive school and our motto of ‘all different all equal’ encompasses everything we do. Therefore, we are committed to a whole school approach to the education of learners with special educational needs (SEN).

We aim to ensure that every learner achieves their personal, social, emotional and academic potential in all areas of the curriculum. We recognise that individual learners have a variety of needs, which vary during their school career. We try to take account of such diversity with sufficient variety of provision to enable learners to broaden their learning experiences, to succeed at school, and to achieve high standards of performance – aiming, overall, to enable each learner to realise their full potential.

We have prepared a Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Policy and an Accessibility Plan which provide procedures and guidelines that we follow in order for Kenton to be as inclusive as possible.

ADDITIONALLY RESOURCED PROVISION ( ARP) AT KENTON
Please find details below about the two ARPs at Kenton. Places are allocated through the local authority.

1. Communication and Interaction ARP
The Communication and Interaction ARP supports 24 pupils, providing a tailored environment to meet their unique needs. The ARP is managed by an ARP Manager, alongside an ARP SAHL, ensuring structured and consistent support for students.
Integration and Support
Pupils typically join the Nurture Group in Year 7, based on their academic abilities and capacity to cope in larger mainstream classes. This ensures a gradual and supportive transition while promoting inclusion where appropriate.
Specialised Facilities
The ARP is based in the Learning Support area, providing pupils with access to:
  • separate yard for outdoor activities in a calm environment.
  • break room where students can relax and decompress.
  • sensory room available for those who need additional sensory support.
These facilities ensure that pupils have a safe and supportive environment tailored to their individual needs. It also ensures pupils can access a safe and calming space if needed.
Specialised Interventions
The ARP offers targeted interventions to address communication and interaction needs, including:

Collaboration with Specialists

The ARP at Kenton School is a dedicated space where students receive personalized support, helping them thrive both academically and socially.

2. Speech and Language ARP
