Why study this course?

The course will develop your knowledge and understanding of the ICT sector and provide you with opportunities to develop associated practical skills. It examines ICT in society and contexts where ICT can be used for creating live, digital documents.

You could be interested in how ICT is used in the workplace and want to develop the skills that could be vital in a wide range of jobs or future study. 

How will you be assessed?

The units comprise of: 

ICT in Society
(80-minute exam, 40%): Hardware, software, IT services, data and networking, digital footprints and legal/ethical concerns. 

ICT in Context
(40-hour controlled assessment, 60%): Creating a series of digital documents (spreadsheet, database, automated document and an image). 

What will the course cover?
  • Explore the wide range of uses of hardware, application software and specialist software in society. 
  • Investigate how ICT is used in a range of contexts, including in business, education and at home. 
  • Develop a broad working knowledge of databases, spreadsheets, automated documents and images. 
  • Create a series of live, digital documents according to a project brief.
Career choices

A Tech Award in ICT provides the skills and techniques for students to pursue a career in ICT or undertake a level 3 ICT/Computing course.
